The situation

You did well at something — got picked for a team, aced a thing, got praised, had a win. And your friend's reaction was strange. Not happy for you. A bit cold. A joke that had an edge to it. A quiet "must be nice." Over time you've noticed a pattern: when you shine, your friend dims, and when you play yourself down, they warm back up. So you've started to shrink on purpose. Downplaying your wins, hiding good news, making yourself a little smaller so your friend feels okay. It keeps the peace. But it means a part of you — the part that does well, that's proud, that wants to celebrate — has to be hidden whenever you're with them. You're managing their feelings by making yourself less.
