The situation

A girl called Leila was thrilled when her much-older cousins said she could hang out with them at the family party — the big kids, the cool ones. Then it turned out hanging out meant going somewhere they weren't supposed to, doing something that made her uneasy, with a clear "don't tell the adults" attached. Leila is the youngest by far. These cousins barely notice her usually, and now they've let her in. But the thing they're doing feels wrong, and a quiet voice in her says she should walk back to where the grown-ups are. The trouble is, walking back means giving up the one time the big kids actually wanted her around.

Why do you think being let in by the "big kids" makes Leila want to stay, even when it feels wrong?
