The situation

A girl called Mia had a falling-out with her friend Holly at break. It started because Mia laughed at Holly's new haircut, but by the time Mia tells the story at home, that part has quietly disappeared. In her version, Holly "just turned on her for no reason" and "totally overreacted." Mia's mum is sympathetic and a bit cross on Mia's behalf. Mia feels comforted — but also a little odd, because she's left out the bit where she started it. The story she told is true in places and missing in the one place that matters. Everyone now feels sorry for the wrong person.
