A boy called Oliver's school sent home a note about a trip that needed a parent's signature and some money. Oliver knows his family is tight on money right now, and he doesn't want to add pressure, so he "loses" the note on purpose and tells the school his parents "said it was fine, they just forgot to sign." He's trying to protect his parents by lying to everyone. He thinks he's being kind. But now the school thinks his parents have agreed when they don't even know, and his parents have no idea a trip is happening or that their son hid it to spare them. Oliver's lie is well-meant. It's also tangling two sides up in something that isn't true, and it takes a decision away from the very people he's trying to protect.
