The situation

In a class group chat, a boy called Dev sees that someone has posted a message claiming a girl, Aisha, said something horrible about another classmate. Aisha never said it — Dev knows, because he was actually there for the conversation being talked about. But the chat is already piling on, lots of angry messages, and Aisha isn't even in this chat to defend herself. Dev could type one message: "She didn't actually say that — I was there." It would slow the whole thing down. But the chat is moving fast, everyone's agreeing, and being the one who defends Aisha means going against the flow. It's easier to stay scrolling, say nothing, and let the chat carry on without him. Aisha, meanwhile, has no idea this is happening.
