The situation

You were kicking a ball in the street and it smashed a neighbour's window — the grumpy neighbour everyone's a bit scared of. There's no one around. You could grab your ball and run, and probably no one would ever know it was you. The window's already broken; running wouldn't make it worse, just hide who did it. Your heart's pounding. Knocking on that door to own up means facing a grown-up you find scary, and probably getting in trouble, maybe having to pay for it. Running means getting away clean. The broken window is done either way. The only thing you're really deciding is whether you're the kind of person who owns it or the kind who runs.
