The Table You Weren't Allowed At
A group of girls has claimed a particular table as theirs. There are unwritten rules about who's allowed to sit there — and the rules can change without warning. One week a girl called Zoe is in; the next, for no reason she understands, she arrives to find the spaces "saved" and is told, kindly enough, that maybe she should sit somewhere else today. The strange thing is how the group uses the table like a tool. Being allowed at it is a reward. Being shut out of it is a punishment. And everyone in the group spends a lot of energy making sure they're not the one shut out next.
