The situation

A boy in your class called Sam has changed a lot since he was younger. He used to be the kid who cried easily, who had a comfort toy he brought everywhere, who once had a meltdown on a school trip that everyone remembers. He's different now — calmer, older, working hard to be taken seriously. The problem is, some kids won't let the old Sam go. They bring up the meltdown. They call him by an old nickname. "Remember when you cried because…?" they laugh. It's like they've trapped him in a version of himself he's worked hard to grow out of. You can see how much he wants people to see who he is now, not who he was at seven.
