A girl called Leah has a grandma who calls every week. Grandma talks slowly, repeats her stories, asks the same questions, and the calls go on a bit. Lately, when the phone rings, Leah finds reasons to be busy. "Tell her I'm doing homework." She's not, really. She just doesn't feel like it. Last week her mum mentioned that Grandma had said, quietly, "Leah's always busy these days, isn't she?" — not cross, just a little sad. Leah felt a pang. She loves her grandma. She just keeps choosing the easy thing, and she's starting to wonder how many of these calls there'll actually be.
