The situation

A boy called Reuben lives in two houses now — his mum's during the week, his dad's at weekends. His parents split up a while ago. Everyone says he's "doing really well with it." He has two bedrooms, two sets of stuff, two routines. What nobody quite sees is the in-between. The bag he packs and unpacks. The thing he leaves at the wrong house. The strange Sunday-evening feeling of missing one parent the moment he's with the other. He doesn't complain, because his parents seem relieved he's "fine," and saying he isn't feels like it might hurt them. So he carries the in-between quietly, by himself.
