The situation

A rumour is going round that a boy called Owen got dumped by a girl and cried about it. You happen to know it's not true — you were there, nothing like that happened. But the rumour is funny to people, and it's spreading fast. When someone repeats it to you, all you have to do is shrug, or laugh, or say nothing, and it keeps rolling. You didn't start it. You're not even really spreading it. But you're the one person in the conversation who knows it's false, and you're letting it pass because correcting it would be awkward and a bit of a buzzkill. Owen isn't here. The lie about him is travelling, and you could stop it.
