The situation

Your friend Zara wants to go to an older kid's party her parents would never allow. Her plan: she'll tell her mum she's sleeping over at your house. She's already half-arranged it. "Just say I was with you the whole time," she says. "Your mum won't even check. Please. You're my best friend." She's looking at you like this is what best friends do for each other. If you say yes, you're now part of a lie to her parents, and if anything goes wrong, you're tangled in the middle of it. If you say no, she might call you a bad friend — or worse, do it anyway with someone else covering.

Why do you think Zara is so sure that a "real" best friend would say yes?
