The Read Receipt
A boy called Omar sent his friend a long message about something that mattered to him. He saw it had been read — the little "Read 4:12pm" appeared — and then… nothing. No reply. An hour passed. Then a whole evening. Omar watched the "read" sitting there and his mind went wild. They're ignoring me. They're angry. I said something wrong. They don't care. Meanwhile his friend had read it on the bus, got pulled into dinner and homework, and simply forgotten to reply — nothing more than that. But Omar didn't know that. He only saw the word "Read" and a silence he filled with the worst. A tiny grey word had turned into a whole story in his head.
Would you rather see when friends have read your messages, or never know so you don't worry about it? Why?
