Trying to Be the Influencer
A boy called Marcus is obsessed with a particular online creator — the way they talk, dress, act, the whole confident, slick persona. And Marcus has started trying to become him. He copies the catchphrases, mimics the style, even films himself the same way, performing for a camera as if he's already famous. The thing is, the creator Marcus idolises is partly a character — a brand built to get views, polished and exaggerated, not a real person being real. Marcus is copying a copy, trying to turn himself into an act that was itself an act. And the real Marcus — funny, a bit nerdy, genuinely likeable — is getting buried under an imitation of someone who isn't even fully real. You miss the actual Marcus. You're not sure he remembers him.
