Behind the shops there was a half-demolished building, fenced off with warning signs, and someone had bent the fence into a gap. A group of kids was egging each other through it — it looked like an adventure, all dust and broken stairs and dares. They turned to a boy called Marcus to follow. Inside were holes in the floor, loose rubble, who-knows-what. Marcus wanted in on the adventure. He also kept looking at those warning signs.
