The situation

Mia wanted to show Mum her drawing. But the baby was crying, and Mum was busy feeding her. "In a minute, Mia," said Mum. Mia waited. The minute felt very long. She loved the baby, but right now she wished Mum could look at her drawing instead. (Feeling words: Left Out · Jealous)

💗 How were they feeling?

Mia felt left out and a little jealous — babies need a lot of help, and waiting for a busy grown-up is hard. Mia still loved her baby sister; she just wanted Mum too. Both feelings are okay at once. Mum wasn't choosing the baby over Mia — babies just can't wait the way bigger kids can. Mum still loves Mia exactly as much.

✨ The big idea

When a grown-up is busy with a baby, you can wait and tell them how you feel: "Can you look now?" Babies need a lot of help, but that doesn't mean you matter less. Your grown-up loves you just the same — and your turn will come.

📖 And then…

Mia took a breath and waited. When the baby was settled, Mum said, "Now — show me your drawing!" Mia held it up. "It's our whole family!" Mum gave her a big squeeze. "I love it. And I love you. Thank you for being patient." Mia felt happy and important again. After that, she even helped Mum by fetching the baby's blanket. Waiting had been hard, but her turn came after all.
