Splitting the Bill
A group of friends went out for a treat — let's say ice creams — and at the end someone said, "Let's just split it evenly, it's easier." But it wasn't even, really. A couple of them had got the big fancy ones with all the extras; a girl called Nadia had got the small basic scoop because that's what she wanted and what she could afford. It was only a bit more, and saying something felt awkward — like making a fuss over a small amount, like being the one who "counts." Everyone was already nodding along to the even split. Nadia had a choice: pay more than her share to avoid the awkwardness, or say the slightly uncomfortable thing about what's actually fair.
